I’m a GenXer. I live in Dallas, TX with my husband, two children, and our dogs, Stella and Clara. Stella is a street rescue who looks like a giant white wolf. Clara is a red border collie.

I graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1990. I did not graduate Summa, Magna, or even Cum Laude, but I did graduate.

Everyone wants to know about the cancer. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. I’m fine now. It’s in the past. I wrote a blog about it, dancewiththereaper.

In January of 2017, I entered the Master of Liberal Studies program at SMU. I graduated in May of 2019 with a 4.0 and turned right around to enter the Doctor of Liberal Studies program. I’m on track to graduate in May 2023.

Being a stay-at-home mom is what I want to do right now, but I have had a career in the past. I worked at a wonderful think-tanky nonprofit in Washington, DC called Independent Sector, and then I followed my husband to Manhattan and worked for the Association of Junior Leagues International for a year. I took a break from working, for the first time, wrote two terrible novels, and volunteered in the Bryn Mawr Bookshop. I again followed my husband, this time to business school and landed a job in the Office of Alumni Relations at Dartmouth as a communications person (writer) in the Development Office. I left that job to move to again follow my husband to Tokyo, where I got involved in the Local Charities Committee of the Women’s Group at the Tokyo American Club. When I was seven months pregnant with my second child, my husband’s career took him to Dallas, where we have remained for 16 years and counting.

For a while, I was writing op-ed columns for the Community Voices program of the Dallas Morning News.

We go to church most weekends, except when we don’t. We eat healthy food and get enough exercise and drink in moderation. I keep the house relatively clean. My kids get good grades and have nice friends. I do a good job with laundry and a bad job with ironing. From the outside, my life seems pretty perfect.

The whole reason I ever write anything is because from the inside, my life is more interesting than it might seem from outside looking in.
